The rising of a new dawn for supporting L&Ders; introducing #TheLnDHandbook, by revisiting #NoPlasters
New year. New me. New L&D approach…. isn’t that how resolutions go? If you are looking to make some changes to your L&D offer in 2021, I am here to help you. The rising of your new year, your new day, your new approach is here, well almost! On 3rd February 2021, I will be launching The Learning and Development Handbook, but for those that can’t wait, I will share some of the ideas beforehand…. Or should I say reshare?
In January 2015 I started a year-long campaign on Twitter to support L&Ders in their roles. I called the campaign #NoPlasters as a reminder to make fundamental shifts, not put superficial plasters over problems. That campaign led to a spot on Learning Now TV, which saw me share my ideas, and also interview a wide variety of people to share their ideas too; the current series is with L&Ders from the Third Sector, and they have fantastic inventive approaches to helping their colleagues and volunteers learn. Check it out at www.learningnow.tv. However, Twitter and LNTV perhaps are not reaching those who really need to consider L&D differently, so encouraged by my personal learning network and the trust of publishers, Kogan Page, I have written #TheLnDHandbook to share my ideas to help L&Ders in their quest to help others learn effectively, efficiently, and enjoyably with engaging learning experiences.
In a moment of lockdown fuelled boredom, I was curious to revisit the 2015 #NoPlasters tweets and see what’s changed in the past half-decade. Surprisingly, and somewhat disappointingly, not that much! It seems we are still battling to introduce fresh thinking into workplace learning. Thus, alongside the book (which includes many of the original tweets) I have decided to explore the old tweets with a new year twist to see what is new in learning in 2021 compared to 2015. Come on the journey with me and let’s explore with curiosity.
In 2015 I tweeted about what was around me, what I noticed, what was being discussed, and so forth, therefore for some of the tweets the context has gone, so I won’t be revisiting all of
them and not always every day as the working dates are different, so they don’t correlate. Plus it was only every a working day, not weekend thing. The content topics, however, have not aged and that is, after all, what is important. Thus I will use the original tweets, themes, concepts to offer the learning community a thought for the day over the course of 2021, starting today, so get over to @MiPS1608 on Twitter to follow #TheLnDHandbook’s inspiration #NoPlastersRevisited.
Happy New Year. New you. New L&D approach.
